The documentary “See you in Phou Nhoi” produced by the People’s Army Cinema focuses on the story of the meeting between American veteran Delffino and the family of martyr Luu Hong Lam to return the diary containing the martyr’s writings about his journey to fight for national independence and unification. After many years of keeping the diary of martyr Luu Hong Lam, Delffino fulfilled his wish to return the diary to his family.
The film delves into the efforts of many sides, Mr. Delffino, the family of martyr Luu Hong Lam, and Vietnamese veterans - to achieve a meeting to return the diary in Phou Nhoi. They have tried to overcome many difficulties and worries to have a meeting full of emotions and feelings of tolerance and understanding.
Lieutenant Nguyen Tu Duc - the film's director - shared: "When I received the literary script, I immediately started to carry out my task, from consulting the editor to going to the field, writing the script, listening to the sharing of people from the previous generation to better understand the battles, especially the battle at Phou Nhoi.
After completing the director's script, I discussed with the crew to come up with the most optimal options for the film making process. That helped me feel confident and gradually complete the film according to plan."
“See you in Phou Nhoi” is not only a meeting to return the relics, but also a meeting to show forgiveness and reconciliation between two peoples who have experienced the pain of war. Dellfino’s journey does not stop at the effort to atone, but also sends a profound message about the value of peace.
Peace and cooperation are not just a state, but also a journey that requires effort and understanding from both sides. Through the story of the film “See you in Phou Nhoi”, the audience will understand more clearly that: Every souvenir, every story carries within it a sacred spiritual value, only when we work together to resolve the wounds of the past, can we build a brighter future.
