On the occasion of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), in Truong Sa special zone - the frontline of the Fatherland - a quiet but meaningful beauty is being maintained and spread. That is reading culture among officers, soldiers and people on the island.
In Truong Sa, each book carries values far beyond paper pages. It is a spiritual gift from the mainland, a message from the rear to the front lines.
The bookshelves on the island, although not large, are scientifically arranged, with diverse genres such as politics, history, literature, science and technology, life skills..., meeting the reading needs of officers, soldiers and people.
In limited living conditions, maintaining the habit of reading books requires perseverance and high awareness. After hours of training, patrolling, and guarding, the image of soldiers taking advantage of reading books has become familiar.
The book helps raise awareness, train political bravery, and at the same time nurture spiritual life, adding motivation to stand firm in remote islands.
Reading culture is not only present in the Navy but also spreads in the residential community on the islands in the Truong Sa special zone. Families, especially children, are increasingly having access to books through support programs from the mainland.
At schools, the "friendly library corner", "book house for children" models are built, creating a close reading space, arousing a love for books.
For young children, each book opens up a new world, contributing to nurturing dreams and aspirations, while forming reading habits - an important foundation for long-term development.
Responding to Vietnam Book Day and Reading Culture, many practical activities are being implemented in Truong Sa such as: Book Reading Day, book storytelling contest, introduction of good books, exchange and sharing of feelings.
Models such as "Mobile bookshelves", "One good book per week"... or the integration of reading content in political activities and youth union activities have contributed to maintaining and developing reading culture sustainably.
Reading culture in Truong Sa not only serves learning and entertainment but also makes an important contribution to building political bravery, resilience and a healthy cultural life.
Books about history, sea and islands, and national traditions help each person understand more, love more and be proud of the Fatherland, thereby enhancing the responsibility of protecting sovereignty.
At the same time, reading books also helps balance spiritual life, limit the negative impacts of a closed environment, and maintain the spirit of optimism and solidarity among officers, soldiers and people.
