Meritorious Artist My Chau belongs to the generation of artists who contributed to creating a brilliant period of Southern Cai Luong stage. At the same time as names such as People's Artist Le Thuy, Phuong Lien, Minh Canh, Minh Vuong, Minh Phung..., she built her own position thanks to her smooth voice, delicate acting style and strong demeanor.
One of the reasons why My Chau's name is remembered for a long time is that she is not only famous for her singing voice but also creates her own image on stage. The female artist was once called by the audience "female knight queen", associated with roles with strong, decisive colors but still containing many inner levels.
Born in 1950 in Long An (now Tay Ninh province), My Chau early showed artistic talent. Initially, she loved new music and once wanted to become a doctor. However, following her family's direction, she switched to Cai Luong and quickly showed special abilities.
In 1965, My Chau attracted attention with the role of Thuy Duong in "Hai lan thu hen" on the Capital stage. After that, she joined the Kim Chung troupe and was guided by artist Minh Canh. The role of Mai Thao in "Trinh nu lau xanh" became an important milestone, bringing My Chau's name closer to the public.
In 1967, she received the Promising Gold Medal of Thanh Tam Award. In the following years, My Chau continued to affirm her position with many roles and songs loved by audiences. In 1993, she was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, recognizing her contributions to the stage.
Another special mark lies in the role of Vo Tac Thien. In 2002, after 9 performances of the play "Vo Tac Thien", My Chau officially said goodbye to the stage, closing her artistic journey that lasted more than 3 decades.
The role of Vo Tac Thien therefore became a meaningful farewell. In this role, My Chau portrays the image of a powerful but torn character, both decisive and lonely. The ability to handle the character's psychology and her own voice helped her leave a deep impression.
After leaving the stage, although no longer performing regularly, she has collaborated with domestic and foreign units to stage and record works associated with her name. In 2012, after the program "Ta tinh tri am", she officially closed her performing activities.
It is worth mentioning that leaving the stage did not make My Chau disappear from the audience's memory. Excerpts from her roles are still shared on Cai Luong forums. In particular, the image of My Chau in "Vo Tac Thien" continues to be sought after by audiences many years after she retired.
