Musician Dong Thien Duc believes that in many countries, copyright respect has become a habit and standard in cultural life. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, many people still maintain the mentality of using music works for free on digital platforms without really paying attention to the rights of authors.
According to him, to limit this situation, coordination from many parties is needed, including management agencies, technology platforms and users themselves. In addition to handling violating content, the awareness of asking for permission before using works also needs to be improved.
Applying for permission before using the work, clearly stating the source and respecting the author's rights should become a common culture in the digital environment" - Dong Thien Duc shared.
Sharing the same view, musician Ha The Dung said that the situation of arbitrarily covering commercially, cutting and pasting or using songs on social networks is significantly affecting the rights of creators.
Copyright infringement not only causes economic damage but also reduces the motivation to seriously invest in new products. However, the male musician also believes that handling needs to be flexible between cases of intentional profiteering and non-commercial content.
Ha The Dung proposed that the procedures for applying for permission to use works should be simplified to make it easier for users to access and comply with regulations.
Meanwhile, musician Hamlet Truong said that most musicians are not too strict with others singing their songs again. However, proactively texting for permission before using is still a civilized way of behaving and showing respect for the author.
Musician Nguyen Minh Cuong said that the story of intellectual property rights infringement has been "hot" for many years, but before, there was still no truly strict handling direction, so many individuals and units continue to violate.
From a legal perspective, lawyer Truong Van Tuan - Saigon Bar Office - believes that strengthening the handling of copyright infringement will contribute to protecting the legitimate rights of authors and creating motivation for the creative industry to develop sustainably.
According to him, when works are copied or illegally exploited rampantly, creators easily feel that their efforts are not appreciated. Conversely, if copyright is better protected, artists and investors will have more confidence to continue investing in quality products.
