A series of Vietnamese films are being renewed
Some projects that are implemented in the second part include: Sister Muoi Ba, Getting Rich with Ghosts, Sister Inherit, Cu laocor song...
The film "Getting Rich with Ghosts" after the box office revenue increase of 128 billion VND in part 1, the producer quickly started working on part 2, expected to be released in September 2025.
"Getting Rich with Ghosts 2" revolves around the journey to bring the body of star Anh Thu (Ngoc Xuan) back to her hometown, with the promise to be paid with a 9 billion VND diamond ring from her ghost. The film mainly brings laughter to the audience, not emphasizing too many artistic elements.
In part 1, the project received a good response when it had a strong point of bringing laughter to the audience, however, the film still encountered some controversy about the special effects and handling of the plot. However, not meeting many competitors at that time, plus the films with many stars participating, somewhat helped the project win big, the producer invested more in part 2.
While before that, some other projects also released part 2 thanks to part 1 that created attention and good revenue, typically the 2 series of films "Chi Muoi Ba".
"Chi Muoi Ba: The Final trend of Tam Muoi" was released in 2019 and earned 62 billion VND even though the quality of the film was not rated too highly. However, thanks to the attraction of this brand, Thu Trang released "Chi Muoi Ba: 3 days of life and death" in 2020 and achieved a revenue of 108 billion VND, entering the top of the highest-grossing Vietnamese films of all time at that time.
However, not all Vietnamese film projects that have released part 2 have achieved the expected success. On the occasion of September 2, 2022, " Cu laocor vi" - the first Japanese Japanese Japanese film, was a social media phenomenon at one time. The film opened with more than 6.1 billion VND and achieved a total revenue of more than 12.8 billion VND. At that time, the film faced a series of controversies from the audience. Many viewers criticized the project for being reckless, poor technique, and illogical... However, because it was labelled the first Japanese Japanese blogger film, the project attracted a lot of attention. The film's producer later apologized and promised that the second part would be better.
Grasping the curiosity of the audience, this film crew released part 2, "The Live crew" in 2023 but in the end only earned more than 4 billion VND.
Similarly, "The Village Heir" also released 2 parts. However, the revenue of both films is not very good. This is explained by the poor quality of the film, and the audience is not interested in buying tickets to the cinema.
Can't wait for the "feeding"
It can be seen that often when deciding to make a part 2, filmmakers base on their predictions that the project has business potential when part 1 has won big in terms of box office revenue.
According to director Charlie Nguyen: Making part 2 will be much more stressful than part 1, because the audience has watched part 1, the film is already successful; part 2 must be more successful, or at least achieve the same results as part 1. Even Hollywood has many films with the second part that have failed miserably. Therefore, the factor of the first part winning big is only the initial favorable, not the determination of the revenue of the second part".
Investing in film production is now a problem filled with luck and luck factors. Looking at successful films and adding a second part to see, it is mainly comedy, action films and only focuses on big filmmakers, or box office stars.
The trend of making a second part for blockbuster films with overwhelming revenue in the first part is gradually becoming a popular formula, even though they are under more pressure. However, looking at the films with part 2 today, the quality is still fluctuating and not really guaranteed.
Therefore, to score points in the eyes of the audience, filmmakers not only rely on the "goal of eating" but also have to invest, create and ensure the quality of the film when released in theaters.
