Vietnamese films with little and unimpressive foreign cooperation
In recent years, Vietnamese films have had cooperation projects such as: "Beauty of the Book" (cooperation with Thailand), "The Third Person" (cooperation with Korea), "La Luc Uoc troi cua ai luong" (cooperation with Thailand).
However, a sad reality is that many previous collaboration films have not really exploded at the box office, even falling heavy losses.
In particular, La firmage au troi de nors directed by Thanadet Pradit, brings together famous actors from both countries such as Dome Pakorn Lam, Push Puttichai, Ngoc Lan Vy, Peoples Artist Hong Van... The film has a director, creative crew and Thai setting, a Vietnamese production director, but the project only earned more than 514 million VND, causing heavy losses at the box office.
The main reason why this work, despite having famous names in the Thai entertainment industry, still cannot conquer audiences is because the script is not really convincing.
The film "The third person" is invested by Ly Nha Ky, producing and making the female lead; Park Hee-Jun directed in the same situation. This is a cooperation work between Vietnam and Korea, with the highlight of actor Han Jae -Suk - once famous for the movie "Glass Shoes". However, in stark contrast to what the audience expected, the lack of logical film and the awkwardness of the actor made the "third person" leaving the theater with a small revenue of several billion.
Expectations after failures
Foreign-invested films clearly have many advantages such as good media effects, diverse actors and filming locations. However, in general, depending on these factors to overlook the script is easily counterproductive.
The time has passed when audiences go to the cinema just for a star or idol. Today's viewers choose movies because of their content and image quality. In reality, it is not just a foreign cooperation label that the film will be successful. Although this is an opportunity to promote and learn, many projects with big stars and professional crews have still failed, clearly reflecting the limitations in the current way of making films.
In 2025, audiences expect Vietnamese cinema to make a breakthrough with foreign collaboration films, especially through two notable projects about to be released: "Mother Goes Out" and "The Last wish".
With "Mother Goes Out" - a cooperation film project between Vietnam and Korea written and directed by Mo Hong-jin, starring Hong Dao, Tuan Tran and Jung Il-woo.
Not a remake, Mother Goes Out was developed entirely from the original script, which Korean filmmakers diligently researched and inspired by the people, lifestyle, and culture of Vietnam. From the original intention, the crew wanted to create a Vietnam - Korea cooperation film with a close and friendly spirit towards Vietnamese audiences in particular and the world in general.
Mother leaves is scheduled to premiere on August 1, 2025, and some of the first scenes of the film have been well received by many audiences when revealed.
Similarly, The Last wish is also a film a collaboration between Vietnam and Korea. The film is produced by Runup Vietnam in collaboration with Contents Panda - one of the leading production and distribution units in Korea.
The cast includes Tien Luat, Dinh Y Nhung, along with the youth trio Avin Lu, Hoang Ha and Quynh Ly. In the teaser trailer that has just been released, "The Last wish" attracts attention with the story revolving around the character Hoang - a male high school student, played by Avin Lu.
The Last uoc will be directed by Doan Si Nguyen and is scheduled to be released nationwide on July 4, 2025.
