Just over a week after its release, the 18+ horror film "Ma Xo" has become one of the most outstanding Vietnamese film projects with revenue in 2026, reaching about 90 billion VND. This achievement helps the work maintain its leading position in the box office and approach the 100 billion VND revenue milestone.
It is noteworthy that "Ma Xo" does not belong to the film group with large investment costs. Sharing with reporters, producer Nguyen Ngoc Thach said that the total production cost of the project is about 20 billion VND.
With the current revenue level, the film is assessed to have far exceeded the breakeven point and has begun to bring profits to investors. According to the practice of the Vietnamese film market, box office revenue will be divided among the cinema system and distribution unit before the rest belongs to the producer. Depending on the agreement, the film crew usually receives about 45-50% of total ticket sales revenue.
If this ratio is applied, from a revenue of 90 billion VND, the producer of "Ma Xo" can earn about 40-45 billion VND. After deducting production costs of about 20 billion VND, the estimated profit ranges from 20-25 billion VND. This figure does not include additional revenue sources such as selling copyrights to online platforms, television, international distribution or commercial sponsorship contracts.
In the context of the increasingly competitive Vietnamese film market, the fact that a film with an investment of about 20 billion VND achieves a revenue of 90 billion VND is considered a significant commercial success. The profit rate of the project is currently at a high level compared to the general level of many Vietnamese films released in recent years.
The growth momentum of "Ma Xo" also shows the stable appeal of the horror film genre. This is a genre that continuously records works that achieve revenue of tens to hundreds of billions of VND in the Vietnamese box office in recent years. With a positive word-of-mouth effect and the absence of many direct competitors, the film is predicted to soon join the hundred-billion VND Vietnamese film club.
Ghost Rider" is the debut work of director Phan Ba Hy, with the participation of Tin Nguyen, Avin Lu, Le Khanh and Hanh Thuy.
