On the afternoon of March 6, the Korean Film Council announced that the movie "The King's Warden" has officially surpassed the 10 million viewers mark, after 31 days since its release on February 4.
With this achievement, "The King's Warden" became the 25th Korean film in history to surpass the 10 million viewership mark, and also the 6th film to reach this milestone, since the COVID-19 epidemic.
Not counting the three parts of the "The Roundup" series, this is the third independent film to do so after "Seoul Spring" and "Exhumation", and is the first Korean film in about 22 months to surpass the 10 million views mark, since "Assault: The Punisher" achieved this milestone in May 2024.
In addition, "The King's Warden" became the 4th historical film to surpass the 10 million viewership mark, after "The King and the Clown", "The Fake Emperor" and "The Battle of the Sea".
Set in 1457 in Cheongnyeongpo - a remote location in Yeongwol district, Gangwon province (Korea), the film revolves around village chief Eom Heung Do (Yoo Hae Jin) - who decides to live with exiled king Danjong (played by Park Ji Hoon).
Sharing about the work, Yoo Hae Jin said that when playing Eom Heung Do, he was greatly influenced by his co-star Park Ji Hoon and could not think of anyone else to play Danjong besides Park Ji Hoon.
Meanwhile, his junior also gave many "winged words" to the male actor - a person he respects very much, and has given him abundant energy. To the point that, even when acting together, Park Ji Hoon is still completely drawn to his senior's acting.
With director Jang Hang Jun, he could not hide his happiness when the film was welcomed by the audience. The male director said he received congratulations from director Park Chan Wook, and felt proud to be praised by a famous director.
