Sharing on stage, Song Joong Ki said he was very moved when he was presented with the award by actor Kim Jong Soo - a senior who collaborated with him in two films, "Hopeless" and "Bogota".
The actor also thanked the producer of "Hopeless" for providing an interesting script when he was feeling bored with his busy life.
The 39-year-old actor added that he learned a lot during his time on the set. He also thanked his co-stars for their hard work and his family for supporting him during filming.
"Hopeless" was released in Vietnamese theaters with the title "Dead End". In the film, Song Joong Ki plays Chi Geon - a gang boss who accidentally takes in an 18-year-old boy named Yeon Gyu (played by Hong Sa Bin). Chi Geon is a character with a complex psychology, both good and bad.
According to JTBC News, Song Joong Ki took on the role in "Hopeless" right after finishing filming the TV series "The Youngest Son of a Chaebol". Notably, because this was a small-scale, low-budget project, he decided not to accept a salary for this film.
His role in "Hopeless" helped Song Joong Ki be nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Blue Dragon Awards and the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards. However, it wasn't until the 2024 Buil Awards that the actor was actually named to receive the award.
This is also a rare award that Song Joong Ki has received in recent years.
After divorcing his girlfriend Song Hye Kyo in 2019, Song Joong Ki's career did not have much improvement. The actor continuously appeared in film projects such as "Vincenzo" (2021), "Sweepers" (2021), "The Youngest Son of a Tycoon" (2022), "Hopeless" (2023)... However, besides "Vincenzo" which brought fame and many awards to the actor, other works did not achieve the expected success.
In particular, after announcing his remarriage to his British girlfriend in early 2023, Song Joong Ki spent a lot of time taking care of his wife and first child.
The comeback movie project "My Name Is Loh Kiwan" (March 2024) received mixed reactions, and box office revenue did not explode.
In a 2023 interview, Song Joong Ki revealed that his wife used her connections in England and Hollywood to introduce and arrange auditions for him there. However, all of these auditions failed.
In the midst of his declining career, the Best Supporting Actor award for "Hopeless" helped Song Joong Ki regain some confidence. Fans also hope that the actor will soon return with new projects.
