Retired General" reflects generational conflict, moral degradation and the tragic loneliness of people when times change. "Retired General" is one of many famous works, bearing a strong personal literary imprint of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep.
Along with a series of outstanding works such as "The Rippers", "Salt of the Forest", "Snails flying and screaming in shock"... Nguyen Huy Thiep is considered one of the most outstanding authors of contemporary Vietnamese literature.
Among many programs in response to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, Nha Nam Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company will organize a seminar "Nguyen Huy Thiep and the literary career left behind" along with a thematic exhibition "Nguyen Huy Thiep's manuscripts, ceramics and works".
The seminar on Nguyen Huy Thiep's literature will be held on the evening of April 24, 2026.
Through the seminar "Nguyen Huy Thiep and the literary career left behind" and the display of valuable documents such as handwriting, manuscripts and domestic and foreign publications... will contribute to recreating a famous and important literary portrait of modern Vietnam.
The event also introduces "Retired General" reprinted with a new look, and is also included in the "Vietnam Famous Works" bookshelf, continuing and spreading the sustainable values of the work.
Also within the framework of the series of events in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2026, Nha Nam organizes many seminars, meetings, exchanges, and inspiration about books in Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Nha Trang cities.
