Quang Tri - Athletes are required to wear life jackets when competing at the traditional boat racing festival on the Ben Hai River.

On March 3, in Huynh Thuong village (Vinh Thuy commune, Quang Tri province), the traditional boat racing festival on the Ben Hai River took place.

There are 7 teams participating in the festival with nearly 100 athletes who are children of villagers.

During the festival, 100% of athletes, referees and members of the organizing committee are required to wear life jackets. The locality also does not allow people to use boats, basket boats or other vehicles to go to the middle of the river to watch the race, people are only allowed to stand on the shore to cheer.

In the middle of the river, there are only 7 racing teams and canoes of functional forces performing tasks to ensure security and safety.

Riverine Police Team No. 1 - Traffic Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police said that the unit has advised Vinh Thuy commune to request athletes and people on boats serving the boat racing festival to wear life jackets and not let people move on the river to cheer.

Mr. Thai Nam Son - Chairman of Vinh Thuy Commune People's Committee said that to ensure the safety of the race, Vinh Thuy Commune People's Committee has directed the strict implementation of risk prevention measures. This year's boat racing festival is organized with a spirit of solidarity and joy, but putting safety first.

At the end of the tournament, the organizing committee awarded the first prize worth 3 million VND, the second prize 2.5 million VND, the third prize 2 million VND and the consolation prize 1 million VND.
