Nha Trang Port Upgrade Affects Passenger Pick-up
At the end of September 2024, Nha Trang Port Joint Stock Company announced that it would temporarily stop receiving international passenger ships to ensure absolute safety for people and vehicles, to minimize possible unfortunate incidents and to allow for repairs.
Nha Trang Port has temporarily stopped receiving international cruise ships, making it difficult to receive tourists. If there is no solution, shipping lines may remove Nha Trang from their cruise tours in the coming years.
Because Nha Trang Port has temporarily stopped receiving ships, Hai Dang Nha Trang Maritime Agency Co., Ltd. has canceled 6 more international cruise ships registered to Nha Trang City in January 2025 with about 16,000 passengers. The company also canceled the registration to receive 7 international cruise ships with 16,000 foreign tourists to Nha Trang from October 25 to the end of 2024.
In this situation, Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority proposed that the competent authority consider expanding the seaport waters in Khanh Hoa - Nha Trang Bay area to the end of Nha Phu lagoon to bring Ana Marina International Marina into the seaport waters. Khanh Hoa province is also studying the plan to guide shipping lines to bring ships to Cam Ranh International Port.
Complete procedures for receiving guests at the alternative port soon
In a meeting with the Vietnam Maritime Administration at the end of October 2024 to resolve the issue of welcoming international passenger ships to Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Vietnam Maritime Administration consider expanding the Khanh Hoa seaport waters from Nha Trang Bay to Nha Phu Lagoon and licensing a new anchorage area in the North of Nha Trang to facilitate international ships bringing passengers to Ana Marina.
Mr. Le Do Muoi - Director of Vietnam Maritime Administration has agreed in principle to arrange a temporary anchorage point in the North of Nha Trang so that international cruise ships can transfer passengers to Ana Marina. Director of Vietnam Maritime Administration also requested Nha Trang Port Joint Stock Company to speed up the repair and upgrade of Nha Trang Port.
Currently, the Naval Region 4 Command is supporting provincial departments, agencies, and sectors, Tan Cang - Petro Cam Ranh Company Limited and tourism businesses to participate in welcoming and serving cruise ship tourists to Cam Ranh International Port.
Most recently, the Coral Princess was the 28th ship to Khanh Hoa, but the first ship to Cam Ranh International Port this year. According to the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, Cam Ranh International Port's participation in welcoming cruise ships will contribute to diversifying the destinations for welcoming cruise ships to Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa.
Although the distance from Cam Ranh International Port to Nha Trang is a bit far, the facilities here are very good, ships can dock at the wharf so there is no need to waste time transferring passengers.
After arriving at Cam Ranh International Port, tourists were taken on tours to explore Nha Trang by Tan Hong Tourism Company - Du tham Viet. The company also organized free shuttle buses for tourists who did not buy tours from Cam Ranh International Port to Wyndham Grand KN Paradise Cam Ranh Resort.
