Publishing industry achieves revenue of about 4,165 billion VND in 2025

In 2025, Vietnam's publishing industry continued to maintain its growth momentum with more than 51,500 publications, nearly 544 million printed copies and a strong increase in electronic publishing.

Speaking at the Conference to deploy key tasks for Publishing, Printing and Issuing publications in 2026, Mr. Nguyen Nguyen - Director of the Publishing, Printing and Issuing Department said: "In the past year, the fluctuations of the international economy and politics in the past time have significantly impacted the publishing industry, especially the printing sector. In addition, the decline in domestic purchasing power also directly affects publishing activities.

However, with many efforts from the entire industry and in the context of the economy maintaining a growth rate of about 8.2%, the publishing industry still achieved remarkable results in 2025".

According to a report by the Publishing, Printing and Issuing Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), there are currently 52 publishing houses operating in 49 governing agencies nationwide. In 2025, the total number of publications reached 51,574, with 543,544,860 printed copies, an increase of 0.6% in the number of publications compared to the previous year.

In which, printed books reached 42,816 titles with 457,689,857 copies, a slight decrease of 1.5% in the number of titles and 8.8% in the number of copies compared to 2024. Conversely, electronic publishing recorded significant growth, with 5,218 publications and about 35 million visits, an increase of 49.3% in the number of titles and 66.7% in visits compared to the previous year.

Other publications such as maps, calendars, and tapes reached 3,892 publications with more than 50.8 million copies, an increase of 31.8% in the number of publications.

The topic structure shows that textbooks, curricula and reference materials continue to account for a large proportion with 15,139 publications, equivalent to 32% of the total number of publications, while children's books reached 9,934 publications, accounting for about 21%.

In addition, revenue of the entire publishing industry in 2025 reached about 4,165 billion VND. State budget contribution reached 532.9 billion VND, up 56.9%, while after-tax profit reached 542.7 billion VND, up 6.95% compared to the previous year.

Promoting digital transformation and developing electronic publishing in 2026

The development of electronic publishing is becoming a clear trend of the industry. Currently, 35/52 publishing houses have participated in publishing and distributing e-books, accounting for 67.3% of the total number of publishing houses.

In the printing sector, by the beginning of 2026, the whole country had about 3,580 printing establishments licensed to operate, an increase of 7.8% compared to 2024.

Total revenue of the printing industry is estimated at 158,500 billion VND, an increase of 5.8%, with a profit of about 11,450 billion VND. The total number of workers in the printing and publishing sector is about 61,800 people, an increase of 1.6% compared to the previous year.

In the publishing sector, the whole country has 570 enterprises registered to publish publications. In 2025, the total number of published publications reached about 610 million copies, an increase of 5.9%, with revenue reaching 5,230 billion VND, an increase of 8.96% compared to 2024.

Stepping into 2026, the publishing industry aims to continue to develop in a modern and sustainable direction, in which digital transformation and electronic publishing are identified as key tasks.

According to the plan, in 2026 the industry strives to achieve about 57,000–59,000 publications, with 5,480–5,560 electronic publications and 36.7–37.3 million visits.

Along with that, total revenue of the whole industry is expected to reach about 168,000–171,200 billion VND, an increase of about 6–8% compared to 2025.

The industry will also continue to improve institutions, promote electronic publishing, expand international cooperation and strengthen copyright exports to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese publishing in the coming period.
