At the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Musicians Association, term 2026-2031 held in Hanoi, the Executive Committee of the 11th Vietnam Musicians Association elected Major General, musician Duc Trinh to hold the position of Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association for the term 2026-2031.
This is the second time musician Duc Trinh has held the position of Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association. Previously, he was first elected as Chairman of the Association in January 2022, term X (2020-2025).
The four new Vice Presidents of the Vietnam Musicians Association include People's Artist Pham Ngoc Khoi, Meritorious Artist Dinh Trung Can, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong and Colonel, musician Ho Trong Tuan.
Speaking at the Congress, musician Duc Trinh assessed the nearly 7-decade journey of the Vietnam Musicians Association associated with the development steps of the country. In the 2020-2025 term, the Association has many innovations in content and methods of operation, expanded scale, promoted digital transformation, strengthened international exchanges and implemented many professional programs.
In the 2026-2031 term, the Vietnam Musicians Association orients towards building a democratic, united, professional creative environment, encouraging innovation and diversity in composition, while maintaining national cultural values.
Major General, musician Duc Trinh was born in 1957 in Bac Giang, grew up in Hanoi. In 1973, when he was only 16 years old, he enlisted and fought in the Southern battlefield, then performed international duties in Cambodia. His experiences in the war became an important material in many of his compositions.
He used to hold the position of Rector of the University of Culture and Arts of the Army in the period 2009-2017, was awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher in 2010 and promoted to Major General in 2012. He is the second musician in the Vietnamese army to be promoted to Major General, after musician An Thuyen.
Since 2010, he has held the position of Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association and was elected Chairman of the Association in January 2022. He is the author of many well-known songs such as "Distant Land", "Love of Soldiers", "Going Against the Perfume River", "Wild Flowers", "Spring Rain" and some instrumental works. In 2012, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts.
