alarming figures
From the beginning of 2025 to now, Dak Nong province has recorded 14 accidents and injuries, causing 20 children to die. Of which, there were 12 drowning cases that killed 18 children.
Localities that recorded child drowning deaths include: Dak R'lap 5 children; Dak G'long, Dak Mil, Tuy Duc and Gia Nghia City, each locality has 3 children who died.
For example, recently, G.A.D (born in 2018, residing in village 5, Dak Plao commune, Dak G'long district) followed his family to work on the fields near his home. Seeing his father swimming a boat across the dam to work in the fields, D immediately swam along and drowned.

According to the assessment, drowning is not only a pain for families but also a social warning bell about the situation of accidents and injuries for children.
To protect children from the risk of accidents requires urgent attention and action from parents and schools.
Along with that is the community's cooperation to raise awareness, equip children with safety skills, and protect them from lurking dangers.
Confusion in drowning prevention
Regarding this issue, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee stated that the task of preventing child drowning in many localities is still confusing, difficult, and certain limitations.
Some key contents and solutions have not been implemented in many units or the organization of implementation is not regular, widespread and in-depth.
Some localities, Party committees, and authorities have not really paid due attention to the direction and investment in child drowning prevention.
Meanwhile, children are always lively, curious, and like to go to the water, but lack the supervision and management of adults and families.
Some families are still limited, still subjective, negligent, careless, taking the issue of managing and educating children about knowledge, swimming skills, safety in the water environment, and being subjective in preventing and fighting drowning.
That is the basic cause of drowning in children in the province.
This increases the risk of accidents, especially when students are about to enter the summer vacation and often stay home to take care of each other or follow their parents to the fields.
Faced with this alarming situation, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Health; Department of Education and Training; Provincial Police; district-level authorities to continue implementing solutions to prevent child drowning.
