According to Business Insider, the US military believes that there is no weapon that can cope with the entire threat from drones. Instead, this country is building a multi-layered defense system to respond to modern war scenarios.
Business Insider reported that the US military has just established Joint Task Force 401 (JIATF 401) - a new specialized agency of the US Department of Defense. This force is tasked with finding effective ways to cope with the outbreak of drones in recent conflicts.
Speaking about this issue, Matt Ross - US Army Brigadier General, currently serving as commander of JIATF 401, said that each type of drone has different characteristics, sizes and operating methods, forcing the military to use many measures at the same time.
Accordingly, the US is focusing on building a combined defense system, including traditional interceptor weapons, electronic interference technology and command systems to help detect and track drones early. This approach is considered more appropriate than relying on a single solution.
The biggest challenge today is small, cheap and easy-to-deploy drones, which are increasingly used on the battlefield. These devices are difficult to detect, but can appear in large numbers and cause significant damage even at low cost.
Matt Ross emphasized that defense effectiveness not only depends on technology but also on the organization, coordination and use of existing systems. In the context of drones becoming increasingly popular, building flexible response capabilities is considered an urgent requirement for the US military.
