Thales develops new optoelectronic shield for military armored vehicles

Cát Tiên |

Thales is researching technologies to develop new optoelectronic shields for military armored vehicles.

The project is implemented in the Next Generation Soft Kill (NGSK) program selected by the British Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL).

In this program, Thales will cooperate with the leading UK defense, security and aerospace technology corporation - QinetiQ to develop advanced protection solutions for the UK's ground military vehicles.

According to the plan, many design ideas will be researched and evaluated before choosing the most suitable configuration for further development and in-depth testing.

The goal of the program is to create a system capable of making military vehicles harder to detect, track and lock targets more effectively.

The chosen option will be compatible with the integrated modular protection system architecture of the UK.

This is a platform designed to support the flexible deployment of protection technologies for both existing vehicles and future combat vehicles.

In this project, Thales will take advantage of experience in the fields of threat warning sensors, defense support systems and optoelectronics technology.

Meanwhile, QinetiQ will take on the role of evaluating and authenticating technology to ensure practical application capability on the battlefield.

Through the NGSK program, companies expect to demonstrate the effectiveness of combining integrated sensors with optoelectronic countermeasures in increasing the survivability of armored vehicles.

The project is also seen as part of efforts to strengthen the UK's domestic defense industry capabilities in the face of future military challenges.
