12 people in Dak Lak evacuate hundreds of people from flooded areas

Dak Lak - 12 people have participated in evacuating and rescuing about 300 people trapped in the midst of the fierce flood.

On the morning of November 28, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Kien Ward, Dak Lak Province - said that the unit had just organized a special reward for 11 individuals and proposed that the Provincial People's Committee reward 1 individual for bravery in saving people during the recent flood.

According to Mr. Thang, from November 19 to 23, Binh Kien ward experienced continuous heavy rain, causing widespread flooding in 12/23 neighborhoods.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Han - Party Cell Secretary, Head of Long Thuy Quarter - mobilized 12 people, a small boat and 4 basket boats to participate in the rescue.

With rudimentary vehicles, 12 people in the team did not mind the danger, remaining in the flood water for 2 days. Thereby, about 300 people trapped in the middle of the fierce flood were evacuated and rescued.

According to the Chairman of Binh Kien Ward People's Committee, small basket boats with engines are simple but very effective. They can squeeze into alleys that large boats cannot reach to rescue people. After bringing all the people to safety, during the flood days, the rescue team continued to transport necessities, not letting people go hungry.

"The Ward People's Committee acknowledges and is grateful for the brave actions of the rescue team. Without them, we would not dare to think about the number of deaths, Mr. Thang shared.

In particular, Mr. Tran Van Luan, considered the commander of the rescue team, was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ward People's Committee to the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee.

"The People's Committee of the ward will establish a rescue and relief team with the core force of the 12 brave individuals above, and at the same time call on young volunteers to join the team," Mr. Thang added.
