On September 17, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province said that African swine fever is in control, and communes have announced that the epidemic is increasing.
By the end of September 16, 2025, the whole province had 1,021 pig farms (36 large, 284 medium and 701 small farms), along with about 163,000 small-scale livestock households. On the day of no new outbreak, the number of dead pigs and forced to be destroyed was still high with 487 in 21 communes and wards, an increase of 42 pigs compared to September 15.
Accumulated from the beginning of the epidemic until now, there have been 9,235 households with sick and dead pigs, accounting for 5.67% of the total number of households raising pigs. The number of communes and wards with epidemics is 64/78, equivalent to 82.05%. The total number of dead pigs and forced to be destroyed is 75,672, accounting for 17.52% of the total herd in the province (431,874 pigs).
Notably, there have been 12 communes and wards that have not experienced an outbreak for 21 days, of which 5 communes including Dan Hoa, Bac Gianh, Tuyen Son, Tan Thanh and Huong Phung have announced that the epidemic is over.
7 other communes and wards such as Nam Trach, Dong Trach, Le Thuy, Cam Lo, Tuyen Lam, Sen Ngu and Nam Dong Ha are also eligible for announcement in the coming time. Currently, there are 52 communes and wards being monitored, of which some localities have approached the 21-day mark such as Kim Phu, Dong Le, Lao Bao and Ba Long.
Mr. Tran Cong Tam - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri said that in the coming time, the unit will continue to direct localities to isolate and control transportation, while strengthening hygiene, disinfection and disinfection of barns.
The veterinary industry also recommends that livestock farmers limit herding until the end of the epidemic has been announced, strictly follow disease prevention measures to minimize damage and quickly control the epidemic.
