On June 26, the Thai Nguyen Province Property Auction Service Center organized an auction of 1.58 million tons of illegally exploited coal at Minh Tien Coal mine (Dai Tu). This amount of coal was confiscated under Judgment No. 67/2023/HSST of the Provincial People's Court and Decision to enforce Judgment No. 89/QD-CTHADS of the Thai Nguyen Civil Judgment Enforcement Department.
The starting price is over 291.6 billion VND, with step prices from 1 billion VND or more. Participating in the auction are 2 customers, including: DHA General Production and Service Company Limited and Thanh Hung Investment and Trade Development Joint Stock Company Branch.

After 1 round, DHA General Production and Service Company Limited won the auction with an amount of over 292.7 billion VND.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, Yen Phuoc Joint Stock Company was granted a license by the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province to exploit coal in Minh Tien mine, with a reserve of 136,000 tons. The exploitation capacity is 8,500 tons/year, until mid-2031.
The leaders of Yen Phuoc Joint Stock Company colluded with subjects of Dong Bac Hai Duong Company Limited to illegally exploit at a capacity dozens of times higher than the reserves.
The investigation determined that the total illegal profits of the two groups were more than 375 billion VND.
In this case, in addition to the group of subjects directly committing the crime, the Ministry of Public Security also prosecuted and detained a series of former leaders and a number of officials of the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Thai Nguyen province.
Up to the time of prosecution, from June 2018 to August 2021, the defendants had illegally exploited a total of more than 3 million tons of coal and accompanying minerals.

In October 2023, the first-instance trial panel of the case sentenced 33 defendants.
Defendant Chau Thi My Linh - General Director of Yen Phuoc Joint Stock Company - was sentenced to 19 years in prison and an additional fine of 200 million VND.
Defendant Wei Quang Thuyen - manager at Minh Tien Coal mine - was sentenced to 18 years in prison and an additional fine of 50 million VND.
The two brothers Bui Huu Thanh and Bui Huu Giang - shareholders of Northeast Hai Duong Company Limited - were sentenced to 36 months in prison and 42 months in prison, respectively. Each defendant was additionally fined 200 million VND.
Some other defendants, including former Thai Nguyen officials, were sentenced to between 9 months in prison (with a suspended sentence) and 5 years in prison.
