2,551 billion VND to build an inland waterway port in Viet Hung ward

KHÁNH AN |

The project to invest in building Giang Bien Inland Waterway Port in Viet Hung ward has strategic significance in developing the logistics system of Hanoi Capital.

Along with the development of Hanoi Capital, the requirement to invest in modern logistics infrastructure and effectively exploit waterway transport advantages is becoming increasingly urgent. In that direction, the Giang Bien Inland Waterway Port Construction Investment Project is identified by Hanoi City as one of the important infrastructure projects, contributing to realizing the goal of developing the inland waterway port and logistics network of the Capital.

According to the Investment Policy Approval Decision of the Hanoi City People's Committee, the project is implemented in Viet Hung ward with an area of about 23.87ha.

The goal of the project is to meet the transportation needs of goods for industrial parks and clusters in the area; connect goods with Lach Huyen International Gateway Port (Hai Phong), contributing to significantly reducing logistics costs, reducing the load on road transport and effectively exploiting the land fund outside the riverbank according to the approved plan.

The highlight of the project is its strategic location on the Duong River - Red River route, belonging to the northeastern gateway of the Capital. This is an important waterway transport corridor connecting Viet Tri - Hanoi - Pha Lai - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh, and also interconnected with the international seaport system through Lach Huyen Port.

With that advantage, Giang Bien Inland Waterway Port is oriented to become a cargo gathering and logistics transshipment hub of the region, contributing to promoting the efficiency of waterway transport, reducing pressure on road traffic and improving the regional connectivity capacity of Hanoi.

Not only having advantages in waterways, the project also benefits from the multimodal transportation system that is gradually being completed.

From the port area, goods can quickly connect with National Highway 1, National Highway 5 and key routes such as Ngo Gia Tu, Mai Chi Tho, Hoi Xa. At the same time, connect with the new Duong bridge under construction, Giang Bien bridge according to the plan.

In addition, the distance from the project to Gia Lam station is only about 4.7km, creating favorable conditions for forming a transport chain combining waterway, road and railway, in line with the orientation of modern logistics development of the Capital.

According to the approved plan, the project is invested in two phases, with a system of 6 ports, container yards, operating areas, technical infrastructure and synchronously connected transportation.

When completed, the port will have a wharf length of 600m, receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 3,000 tons, with an initial operating capacity of about 1 million tons of cargo per year.

The project has a total investment of more than 2,551 billion VND.

Not only having the meaning of developing transport infrastructure, the Giang Bien Inland Waterway Port Project also opens up many development opportunities for Viet Hung ward. When put into operation, the project will contribute to attracting businesses to invest in logistics, trade and services; creating more jobs, expanding production and business opportunities, promoting economic restructuring and improving the efficiency of exploiting land funds off the riverbank.

This is also an important premise to improve the quality of urban development, gradually forming a new growth pole at the Northeast gateway of the Capital.
