According to the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Yen Bai province, by the morning of September 9, storm No. 3 had killed 3 people due to landslides and injured 4 others.
The deceased victims include: Sung Thi T, 10 years old, Suoi Lot village, Suoi Giang commune, Van Chan district; Nguyen Van Kim, 69 years old, village 10, Dong Quan commune, Luc Yen district; Nang Van An, 7 years old, Na Noi village, Lieu Do commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province.
The storm caused damage to 3,103 houses. Notably, from 6:30 p.m. on September 8 in Yen Bai city, the Red River rose above alert level 3, causing major flooding, isolating many villages, groups, and households. Of these, 2,400 affected households had to be temporarily relocated to ensure safety.
The total area of damaged and affected crops is 1,022.86 hectares. The whole province has had 325 poultry and 4 livestock killed.
Some sections of National Highway 32, Provincial Road 174, Provincial Road 175, and Son Thinh - Suoi Giang Road suffered landslides and rocks and soil spilled over the road surface.
Many inter-commune and inter-village roads in Tram Tau, Van Chan, Nghia Lo, Mu Cang Chai, Tran Yen, Luc Yen districts and Yen Bai city were eroded and blocked due to flooding.
A series of low voltage power poles and power grid wires were broken and had broken wires.
Estimated damage caused by storms is about 19 billion VND.
Faced with the above situation, during the night, more than 500 officers and soldiers of the armed forces (police, army, militia) were on duty 24/7 with motorboats, canoes, and specialized vehicles to help people move their belongings to high places and evacuate the elderly and children to safety.
In isolated areas, police forces have officers on guard duty 24/7, not allowing people to pass through to ensure safety.
At flooded areas, police forces and people spent a "sleepless" night racing against the flood to minimize damage to people's lives and property.
Many elderly and lonely people were taken to the ward People's Committee headquarters by the police force in coordination with local authorities to be cared for and provided with necessities and medical care when necessary.
