Amid the fierce storm No. 13 in the Central Coast, Mr. Pham Duy Quang in Ly Son Special Zone was lucky to survive after more than two days of drifting in the storm.

On the morning of November 8, Mr. Nguyen Van Huy - Chairman of Ly Son Special Zone People's Committee - confirmed the information that he had rescued 1 of the 3 people swept away by the waves and gone missing on the afternoon of November 6.

The person who was saved was Mr. Pham Duy Quang (born in 1978), residing in Tay An Hai village, Ly Son special zone. Mr. Quang was also the one who swam a basket with Mr. Le Van Sanh (born in 1988) to save Mr. D.Q.C (44 years old, residing in Tay An Vinh village) - the person who, due to family conflicts, went to the Ly Son port area to commit suicide on the afternoon of November 6, when storm No. 13 was about to make landfall in the Central Coast.

Currently, Ly Son authorities are contacting the locality where Mr. Quang was rescued to get specific information - Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Chairman of Ly Son Special Zone People's Committee, added.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Le Van Luong - Director of Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority - said that the unit received information from Mr. Hoang Phu Xuyen - captain of the Hai Nam 39 ship (Vietnamese nationality), when the ship was traveling from Vinh Tan Port to Son Duong Port (Ha Tinh) to return goods.

At 8:44 a.m. on November 8, when the ship passed through Tam Quan sea (Gia Lai), at coordinates 14°28'08"N, 109°19'29"E, the crew picked up Mr. Pham Duy Quang (born in 1978, residing in Ly Son special zone) floating at sea. At the time of his rescue, Mr. Quang's health was weak but had gradually stabilized.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 3:00 p.m. on November 6, Mr. D.Q.C (44 years old, residing in Tay An Vinh village) went to the Ly Son port area to jump into the sea due to family conflicts.

Seeing that, Mr. Le Van Sanh (37 years old, residing in Tay An Hai village) and Mr. Pham Duy Quang (47 years old, residing in Tay An Vinh village) used a basket to rescue him. However, due to strong waves and strong winds, all 3 people were swept away far away and could not return to shore.

After receiving the report, the authorities mobilized the Thanh Tam ship (number VT0035), captained by Mr. Dang Van Thanh (53 years old), to organize the search. At 5:50 p.m., due to bad weather conditions, the search was forced to be temporarily suspended, the Thanh Tam ship returned to Ben Dinh port to anchor.

After that, the Border Guard Command of Quang Ngai province dispatched the BP 09-19-01 rescue boat and 10 officers and soldiers to coordinate with 2 vehicles of the Ly Son special forces to search for missing people in the southwestern sea of Ly Son island, then expand to neighboring seas but still could not find 3 victims.

At noon on November 7, the Mi-17 helicopter of the 930th Regiment, Division 372, Air Defense - Air Force took off to search for missing people in Ly Son sea area. The flight team set up a search box around the location of the missing victims and dropped relief goods including food and medicine to the residential area in Ly Son special area.

With a spirit of urgency and determination to search for missing victims, however, due to complicated weather conditions, big waves, and strong winds, after more than 1 hour and 30 minutes of searching, the helicopter crew was ordered to temporarily suspend their mission. Regiment 930 continues to prepare, ready to carry out search missions when there is an order.
