After the historic storm and flood in September 2024, many traffic bridges in Dong Hy (Thai Nguyen) were seriously damaged, making it difficult for people to travel.
According to PV's records in early December 2024, at Lien Phuong suspension bridge, Van Lang commune, the anti-sway cable system was damaged, causing the bridge deck to tilt upstream, posing many potential dangers.
Similarly, the Thac Nhat suspension bridge across the Cau River, connecting Phu Luong and Dong Hy districts, was damaged, many columns and steel plates on the bridge deck were rusted and warped. The anti-vibration cables of the bridge were broken, posing a high risk when moving across.
This project has a total construction cost of about 6 billion VND with a cable-stayed design, total length of 110m, bridge width of 2m, completed and put into use in 2015.
The above bridges are damaged, degraded and unsafe, and are now fenced off and have warning signs posted by local authorities. However, due to travel needs, many people and vehicles still accept the danger of crossing.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu Thuy - the caretaker of Thac Nhat suspension bridge said that since the suspension bridge was banned from use due to damage, people's trading and travel activities have encountered many difficulties.
"The bridge has been damaged for a while but has not been repaired yet. I really hope that authorities at all levels will soon have a plan to repair this bridge so that travel and trade can return to normal. If it stays like this, it will be very frustrating," Ms. Thuy added.
On December 4, speaking with reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Lang commune said that recently, the provincial Department of Transport and related functional agencies have conducted surveys and inspections to propose plans to build new and repair a series of bridges.
Of which, about 3 billion VND is for repair, construction, replacement and addition of anti-sway system of the bridge deck, tightening bolts at the suspension bridges: Thac Nhat, Lien Phuong and Van Lang.
In the coming time, Dong Hy District People's Committee plans to invest in building new and upgrading bridges in Na Tranh hamlet, Nam Hoa commune, Long Gian bridge, Khe Mo commune, Khe Tien bridge, Van Lang commune and Ban Doan Ket bridge, Hop Tien commune. The total cost is about 47 billion VND.
The construction and repair of a series of traffic bridges will help facilitate travel, save distance and travel time, and ensure safety for people and vehicles, especially during floods.
