On September 18, Mr. Ngo Van Thang - Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park (Gia Lai province) - said that the Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment issued Decision No. 180/QD-HMTg, recognizing 6 banyan trees (Ficus glaberrima Blume) in Kon Ka Kinh National Park as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
These 6 ancient banyan trees are distributed in Lot 1, compartment 4, sub-compartment 433B and Lot 3, compartment 2, sub-compartment 433A. The trees are from 218 to 300 years old, with an average height of 3242 m. These are typical individuals, associated with the formation and development of the Kon Ka Kinh forest ecosystem, carrying ecological value, landscape as well as important significance in the conservation of biodiversity in the Central Highlands.
According to the recognition decision, the Heritage Trees will enjoy care consultation and life extension; at the same time, they will be widely introduced and promoted on the official communication channels of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.
The Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park, the leaders of Ayun commune and the local community will coordinate with the Association to organize the management, protection, care and promotion of the value of the 6 heritage banyan trees.
