According to leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, in the province's socio-economic development plan for the period 2026 - 2030, with the goal of GRDP growth in 2026 reaching 10.71%, striving to exceed 11%. In which, sector I (agriculture, forestry and fishery) is identified as an important pillar, contributing value at comparative prices estimated at more than 54,300 billion VND, accounting for more than 30% of the province's economic structure.
According to the growth scenario assigned by the Provincial People's Committee, the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector strives to achieve growth of 4% or more in 2026. The value structure shows that agriculture continues to play a key role with more than 31,500 billion VND, followed by fisheries with more than 22,600 billion VND and forestry with about 200 billion VND.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province Le Huu Toan said that to achieve the growth targets in the sector, it is necessary to focus on synchronously implementing key projects such as: Project on Developing a high-tech and clean agricultural sector associated with the processing and manufacturing industry; Project on restructuring the provincial agricultural sector to achieve green growth goals, ensure food security, adapt to climate change and international integration; Project on Developing An Giang into a National Marine Economic Center...
The province promotes value chain linkages, builds and develops stable raw material areas associated with deep processing and export; strengthens the management of growing areas, traceability, disease prevention forecasting, forest protection and climate change adaptation; harmonizes planning between attracting businesses and long-term stable production areas for people, associated with sustainable career change.
Speaking to direct the conference, Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung affirmed that An Giang has great advantages in developing agriculture, forestry, and fishery, especially exploiting and farming aquatic products with great potential, especially in the fields of farming such as pangasius, brackish water shrimp farming and marine farming.
The Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches and localities to strengthen promotion and invite investment in the field of deep processing to increase product value. Prioritize research and application of science and technology into the agricultural and aquatic product industry, especially digital transformation and post-harvest preservation technology; focus on developing green economy, circular economy; strengthen the role of enterprises in linking consumption and processing of agricultural products, improving added value and income for farmers.
