5 Senior Lieutenant Generals resign from the positions of Deputy Minister of National Defense, Deputy Chief of the General Staff

According to the Prime Minister's decisions, 5 Senior Lieutenant Generals of the Army will no longer hold the positions of Deputy Minister of National Defense and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed decisions to terminate the positions of Deputy Minister of National Defense, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) with 5 Army Senior Lieutenant Generals.

In Decisions 343/QD-TTg, 347/QD-TTg, 348/QD-TTg, 349/QD-TTg dated February 26, 2026, the Prime Minister decided that 4 Senior Lieutenant Generals, Members of the 13th Central Committee of the Party, including: Hoang Xuan Chien, Le Huy Vinh, Vo Minh Luong and Vu Hai San, will no longer hold the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense, and will retire from work from March 1, 2026.

In Decision No. 346/QD-TTg dated February 26, 2026, the Prime Minister decided that Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang - Member of the 13th Central Committee of the Party - will no longer hold the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and will retire from work from March 1, 2026.

Previously, on the afternoon of February 26, in Hanoi, a conference was held to hand over the tasks of the Head of the Ministry of National Defense between Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong - Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

The content of the handover between Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau is the entire responsibilities and tasks of the Deputy Minister of National Defense in charge of justice, inspection, legal affairs, audit and 1389 affairs.

Along with that, are all functions, tasks, organization, staffing; tasks that have been implemented, are being implemented and key tasks in the coming time; recommendations and proposals related to the bloc of judicial, inspection, legal affairs, crime prevention and law enforcement forces of the Border Guard, Vietnam Coast Guard, Department of Social Policy, forces resolving administrative procedures on personnel work, commendation, discipline of Vietnamese students abroad, foreign students in Vietnam and implementation of the Grassroots Democracy Regulation.

Also on February 26, in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense organized a conference to hand over technical work between Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh - Deputy Minister of National Defense and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense.
