Gung Re landfill (Gung Re commune, Di Linh district, Lam Dong) is facing a serious fire during the peak dry season.
The fire broke out on the afternoon of March 29 and continued to spread, creating a column of smoke tens of meters high, covering a large area, causing environmental pollution and directly affecting hundreds of households.
The image recorded by the flycam shows that the entire hectare of landfill is burning. According to local people, the fire is at risk of spreading to production gardens and neighboring pine forests and natural forests.
Mr. Pham Van Q., a resident living near the landfill, was upset: "S highly foul smoke and stench are spreading into the house all day and night, disrupting our lives. Pollution is terrible, everyone has to 'hold their breath' and endure it.

Gung Re landfill currently contains hundreds of thousands of tons of open-air household waste, many of which are up to several meters high. The fire burned fiercely, creating a column of smoke tens of meters high, affecting the two villages of Hang Hai and Hang Lang.
People here are suffering from a burning smell and smoke in a radius of at least 5 km. Ms. Ka T. (Hang Hai village) worried: "Not only does it affect daily life, the heat from the landfill also puts coffee gardens at risk of drying out. People are very confused.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet - Deputy Director of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Public Works of Di Linh District, the Gung Re landfill has been overloaded and has stopped receiving waste since March 1, 2025.
Currently, household waste is transferred to Di Linh Waste Treatment Plant in Lien Dam commune. Ms. Nguyet said that the authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and finding a way to control it, but due to the widespread fire and the simmering fire, extinguishing the fire was difficult.
