Highland villages in Thai Nguyen are still submerged in floodwaters

Thai Nguyen - Prolonged floods after storm No. 11 have caused many highland villages to be isolated, houses to be deeply flooded, and people's lives to fall into misery.

In recent days, due to the impact of storm No. 11, many northern highland communes of Thai Nguyen are still deeply submerged in water.

Currently, many areas have receded, leaving behind desolation, mud covering the floor, damaged furniture, and garbage piled up on the roadside.

People took the opportunity to clean up, clear the flow, and find the items left over from the historic flood.

However, in Kim Van village (Van Lang commune) and Lung Xien village (Vinh Thong commune) in the northern part of Thai Nguyen province, the water has not yet receded.

According to Lao Dong Newspaper's reporter in mid-October 2025, many houses here were still deeply submerged in water, with only the roofs rising, precariously amidst the immense floodwaters.

The entire Kim Van village had 27 households completely flooded, some places up to 7 meters deep. The whole village has no electricity, clean water is lacking, people have to move to the highlands or to relatives' houses.

Among the households deeply flooded in Kim Van, Ms. Nong Thi Huyen's family, despite having a high house, was still flooded, and after a few hours the whole family had to move to a relative's house.

Rising floodwaters caused Kim Van village to lose power for many days, and there was a shortage of clean water, forcing people to temporarily move to higher ground, waiting for relief groups to bring in additional food.

Relief trips carrying instant noodles, clean water, and medicine were brought to each location. In the face of shortage, people are waiting for the water to recede to return to clean up and restore their lives.

According to Mr. Dinh Duy Huong - Secretary of Kim Van village Party Cell, the deep floodwaters forced dozens of households to leave their homes and stay with relatives.

It is known that Kim Van village is the "flood center" of Van Lang commune, the whole area has only one drainage cave gate, when garbage and rocks cover the cave mouth, the water overflows, submerging the entire village.

In Lung Xien village (Vinh Thong commune), 14/20 households were deeply flooded, surrounded by floodwaters, causing the whole village to be isolated for many days, the road to be eroded, and vehicles could not access the flooded area.

Relief forces had to carry goods across the mountains, bringing instant noodles, drinking water and medicine to each isolated household in the flooded area, ensuring that no one lacked food or essential necessities.

Ms. Ha Minh Doi (Bac Kan ward) said that the road to the village was severely damaged by water damage, many sections of the village were eroded, and it had to be eroded along the slippery mountain slope to reach the place where people were temporarily living.

For many days, people have been living with the flood, waiting for the water to recede to return home, clean up their belongings, and soon return to daily life.

Previously, Mr. Pham Hoang Son - Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee directly visited and encouraged people in flooded areas, and directed units to ensure food, necessities and soon restore production.

Damage of more than 4,000 billion VND

As of 7:00 a.m. on October 11, the circulation of storm No. 11 was still causing prolonged heavy rain in many northern provinces, with rising flood waters causing 18 deaths, missing people and 10 injuries.

Thai Nguyen is the most severely affected locality, the whole province has hundreds of thousands of deeply flooded houses, thousands of hectares of rice and crops damaged, and damage estimated at more than 4,000 billion VND.
