Quang Tri - Affected by storm No. 5, since the afternoon of August 24, Con Co special area has had strong winds and high waves.

On the afternoon of August 24, Mr. Tran Xuan Anh - Secretary, Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Co Special Zone (Quang Tri Province) - confirmed that since noon of the same day, due to the impact of storm No. 5, strong winds and high waves have appeared on Con Co Island.

Previously, when there was information about storm No. 5, the Con Co Special Zone Civil Defense Command held a meeting to agree on a plan to evacuate people to safe shelters before the storm made landfall; mobilize forces to trim trees, tie up houses; move ships, machinery, equipment to safe places... to minimize damage caused by the storm.

Currently, the special zone has hundreds of military personnel, including 30 workers working on the island and 1 tourist.

According to the plan, from 5:00 p.m. on August 24, the island's military and soldiers will enter the shelter, absolutely no one will stay at home or other facilities to ensure safety.

"We have directed the Special Forces Civil Defense Command to prepare adequate food, provisions, and medical supplies to be ready to respond to the storm. From 5pm, all military and civilians on the island will enter the shelter until safety is ensured before leaving the tunnel" - Mr. Tran Xuan Anh informed.

It is known that Con Co is located about 30km from the mainland of Quang Tri. Before the storms hit land, the island was the first to suffer damage.
