Waste discharge point in front of people's houses
Reflecting to Lao Dong Newspaper, dozens of households in Ke village, Chan Thinh commune, Lao Cai province (Dai Lich commune, Van Chan district, former Yen Bai province) are extremely upset when they have to endure the stench and water pollution from the pig farm of Phuc Hung Yen Bai Co., Ltd. every day.
According to people, in the past 4 years, since the farm went into operation, sewage leaks from livestock facilities have flowed directly into the stream, then spread to the cultivated fields, causing environmental pollution and seriously affecting agricultural production.

The discharge makes it impossible for many households to use domestic water sources and grow low-yield rice.
This prolonged situation makes many families uneasy, having to move young children to live elsewhere because they cannot withstand pollution and stench rising every day.
Although about 1 year ago, after the spillover incident, the farm installed an additional wastewater pipe running directly down to the hillside, things still did not improve.

According to the reporter's investigation, the farm of Phuc Hung Yen Bai Co., Ltd. has a scale of 2,400 hatchlings.
Following the stream bank, the discharge point is about 500m from the farm right in front of a resident's house.
Here, a black stream of water from the plastic pipe flows directly into the stream, emitting a strong fishy smell. The water color from the waste pipe is completely different from the natural stream water color, then forming a black stream flowing throughout the people's cultivated fields.
People cannot cultivate due to pollution
Mr. Hoang Huu Thang, a local resident, said that his family has nearly 700m2 of rice fields affected by the farm's discharge.
Meanwhile, the family of another resident, Mr. Hoang Huu Uoc, reflected that the family was affected by nearly 5,000m2 of cultivated land, for 4 years the yield has suddenly decreased, and has petitioned many times but has not received proper response.

Sharing the same worry as households living near pig farms, Mr. Tran Van Ngoan harshly said: "Every afternoon, a strong stench rises unbearably. Because there are families with young children attending preschool and 1st grade, we have to move to another area to live.
Some households living right at the foot of the farm also said that at night and especially on rainy days, the pig farm often discharges black water accompanied by a strong stench.
Not only that, the waste lake overflow incident in early 2025 still haunts local people. At that time, black, foul-smelling water flows overflowed into the environment, from above flowing along the hillside down to rice fields and fish ponds.

Mr. Tran Van Phung, Head of Ke village, said - this area was previously a chicken farm, then converted to pig farming.
People in the village have repeatedly reflected on the waste discharge situation of pig farms at village meetings and voter meetings.
After receiving feedback, the People's Committee of Chan Thinh commune sent officials to inspect the farm. After that, the company installed a 90mm diameter pipe leading from the wastewater treatment lake to the outside, but there was not much improvement because in reality, wastewater still flowed directly into the stream.
Mr. Hoang Huu Khanh - Secretary of the Party cell of Ke village also said that the situation of pig farms discharging waste, affecting residential areas, has been going on for a long time but has not been completely resolved.
Currently, the pig farm is raising over 2,000 pigs. Every evening, on sunny days or on gloomy days, a strong stench rises, and water discharged into the stream makes people not dare to wash and dare not raise fish," Mr. Khanh said.
Regarding this issue, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Truong Manh Quyet - Chairman of Chan Thinh Commune People's Committee said that he has grasped the reflections of the people and is directing the professional department to conduct inspection and verification to clarify the actual situation.
