Son Ca Island infirmary rescues fishermen from Binh Dinh in distress

Khanh Hoa - Son Ca Island Infirmary (Truong Sa District) received and treated a fisherman from Binh Dinh who had an accident while diving deep under the sea.

On September 26, Son Ca Island Infirmary was still treating a fisherman from Binh Dinh province who had an accident while fishing.

Previously, on the morning of September 25, while fishing in the sea 100 nautical miles from Son Ca Island, Nguyen Huu Thanh (34 years old, fisherman on fishing boat BD 96945 TS) after diving 20m deep to remove the net, when he came to the surface, he felt cold all over his body, fainted for 15 minutes, had chest pain, and lost sensation in both lower limbs.

Mr. Thanh was given oil and care by the crew members on the ship but there was no improvement. The patient was taken to Son Ca Island Infirmary for emergency treatment late that same day.

The island military doctor examined the patient and found him to be in a state of slow contact, severe fatigue, chest pain, abdominal distension, paralysis and loss of sensation in both lower limbs...; diagnosed the patient with severe type 2 acute decompression sickness due to deep diving.

Doctors treated him with oxygen, catheterization, IV fluids, anticoagulants, and antibiotics.

After 1 hour of emergency treatment, the patient was still very tired, paralyzed in both lower limbs, and had lost sensation from the navel down. The island's military medics continued to actively treat, closely monitor, promptly report, and seek professional guidance from the military medics at higher levels.
