On June 4, Mr. Tran Van Lau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Vinh Long province - and a working delegation came to survey the Co Chien River embankment section passing through Tan Ngai ward to assess the current status of the project and direct solutions to handle degraded and damaged locations.
The Co Chien River Embankment project in Vinh Long city (before the merger) was approved by the Provincial People's Committee in 2009 and adjusted in 2014 and 2015. The entire route has a length of 10,775m, with a total investment of more than 1,417 billion VND from government bonds and other legal capital sources. The section passing through Tan Ngai ward is 3,095m long, with a total cost of nearly 216 billion VND, and was put into use from October 2015.

Through actual surveys, many locations on the embankment line have shown signs of degradation such as localized sidewalk subsidence, peeling and cracked paving tiles, appearing voids under the surface and some locations tilted due to loss of materials under the sidewalk structure. The total length of the affected sections is estimated at about 1km.
According to local assessments, the main reason for the damage is that the project has been put into operation for more than 10 years, while maintenance and repair work has not been carried out regularly; at the same time, it is affected by heavy rain, high tides, climate change and the process of use by people.

At the survey, Vinh Long Provincial Party Secretary Tran Van Lau directed departments and branches to coordinate with the People's Committees of Tan Ngai and Long Chau wards to organize a survey of the entire embankment to assess the current situation, identify damaged and subsided locations and propose timely remedial plans. At the same time, study surface water drainage solutions to ensure safety, aesthetics and promote the efficiency of the project.
The Provincial Party Secretary also assigned the Provincial People's Committee to study and survey the nighttime economic development plan along the Tien River embankment, contributing to the effective exploitation of riverside space, creating motivation for service and tourism development and improving the quality of life of people.
