On February 28, the EOD NPA/RENEW Team - a mobile bomb and mine disposal force under the cooperation program between the Norwegian People's Aid Organization (NPA) and the RENEW project in Quang Tri confirmed that they had just handled complaints about the discovery of bombs and mines in Gio Linh commune.
Previously, on February 25, the EOD NPA/RENEW team continuously received many reports of bombs and mines from local people.
In Long Hai village, Mr. Le Hoang Khanh (21 years old) discovered two 155mm artillery shells containing strong explosives while cleaning the garden. The EOD NPA/RENEW team immediately arrived and determined that the two shells had lost their detonators.
In Xuan Hoa village, a 10th grade student discovered a suspicious object in an abandoned garden near his house. He marked the location, called the hotline and informed his father, Mr. Tran Van Nam. When his son was at school, Mr. Nam led the NPA/RENEW team to the scene, identifying it as a 60mm mortar shell.
From this incident, Mr. Nam remembered another explosive near the fish pond in the village. Thanks to additional information, the team continued to discover another 81mm mortar shell.

Nearby, Mr. Le Anh Quoc, while leveling the ground to prepare for construction, discovered a 105mm artillery shell located next to the village road. Seeing the EOD team working at the neighbor's house, he directly reported.
Right before lunch break on the same day, Mr. Tran Xuan Hieu (in Truc Lam village) while digging a fish pond to prepare for the new farming season discovered a 60mm mortar shell exposed under the mud layer.
On February 25, the team handled 5 separate explosive detection points left over from the war, with a total of 6 explosives of various types including 155mm, 105mm artillery shells and 60mm, 81mm mortar shells. All were transported to the centralized detonation site for destruction according to safe procedures.
People proactively reporting information through the hotline has made an important contribution to helping functional forces promptly handle bombs and mines, limit the risk of accidents, and ensure safety for the community in the locality.
