Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest poverty reduction rate
The report of the National Office on Poverty Reduction (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that the rate of poor households according to the multidimensional poverty standard by the end of 2024 will be only 1.93%; the rate of poor ethnic minority households will be 12.55%. By 2025, poverty reduction will continue to have many clear changes, the poverty rate will continue to decrease, to about 1%.
Mr. Pham Hong Dao - Deputy Chief of the National Office for Poverty Reduction - said that Vietnam is one of the first 30 countries in the world and the first country in Asia to apply the multidimensional poverty standard, ensuring a minimum standard of living associated with the goal of sustainable development. The international community recognizes Vietnam as one of the countries with the fastest poverty reduction rate.
Mr. Tran Nhat Lam - Deputy Chief of the Central New Rural Coordination Office - said that the movements "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas" or "For the poor - No one is left behind" have been widely implemented and received strong attention and response. By the end of June 2025, the whole country has mobilized about 3.7 million billion VND for new rural construction; millions of households have voluntarily donated more than 98.2 million square meters of land, contributing tens of thousands of billions of VND and working days to build new rural areas.
Consulting, career guidance, connecting the labor market
According to experts, one of the notable highlights in implementing national target programs on poverty reduction is to support people to connect with the labor market. Statistics show that 100% of workers from poor, near-poor, and newly escaped poverty households who need to be trained, have career guidance, and connect to the labor market. Nearly 6,300 job fairs were held; 1.1 million employers and nearly 3 million job seekers had their information updated in the database.
Regarding livelihood development and job connectivity, over 10,000 livelihood models have been deployed, far exceeding the target of supporting over 1,000 models. Supporting successful job connections for nearly 134,000 workers from poor, near-poor households, and newly escaped poverty households, exceeding the minimum target of 100,000 workers.
Along with that is the increasingly close connection between rural and urban areas. Rural areas do not only stop at improving basic infrastructure, but also gradually raise the level, towards building advanced new rural areas, model new rural areas, meeting more modern, green - clean - more beautiful criteria. Thanks to that, the face of the countryside has changed completely, becoming a solid foundation for socio-economic development.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society Ta Van Ha said that the programs have contributed to improving living conditions and improving the quality of life of rural people, especially ethnic minorities, the poor and vulnerable groups. Along with that, rural infrastructure has been significantly improved; livelihoods have been gradually consolidated; basic social services such as healthcare, education, clean water, information have been expanded; the poverty rate has decreased rapidly...
Many experts and international organizations have also assessed Vietnam as a world model in implementing the goals of the 21st century, including poverty reduction and rural development, said Mr. Ha.
