According to the report of the People's Committee of Son La province, in recent times, due to the impact of storm No. 3 and floods in late July and early August, many highland communes have experienced flooding, flash floods and landslides.

The flood has left 6 people dead and missing, 4 injured. The whole province had more than 1,180 damaged houses and 12 suspension bridges swept away. Many inter-commune, inter-village and inner-city roads were eroded, causing traffic congestion.
More than 50 irrigation works and over 400 hectares of crops were affected. The total damage is estimated at over 688 billion VND.
Flash floods, inundation, and landslides occurred in 12 communes along the Ma River such as: Muong Lan, Pung Banh, Song Ma, Chieng So, Bo Sinh, Muong Lam, Sop Cop, Chieng Khoong, Muong Hung, Chieng Khuong, Huoi Mot. Many villages in Muong Lam and Bo Sinh communes are isolated. Hundreds of households had to move to temporary housing.

For families with human losses, the authorities have promptly organized visits, encouraged and provided support according to regulations, and mobilized forces to focus on searching for missing people.
The province has organized evacuation and arranged temporary safe accommodation for people who have lost their homes or whose houses are in landslide areas or are at high risk of landslides.

For households whose houses were completely washed away and located in dangerous areas, the People's Committees of communes have arranged temporary accommodation for households in schools, village cultural houses, relatives' houses and households in the villages.
With the drastic participation of forces, sectors and localities, by the afternoon of August 4, the authorities had basically cleared the roads and houses of affected people.

Son La province has directed the maximum mobilization of machinery and equipment to handle all traffic congestion on traffic routes. In particular, the 4G national highway along the Ma River has resumed traffic. The inter-commune and inter-village roads are being managed and maintained by units to mobilize forces and vehicles to open the route as soon as possible.
For isolated and isolated villages, Son La province has mobilized forces to bring necessities, instant noodles, rice, and clean water to the people. The province has also made a plan to prepare for the next developments of possible floods in the area.

The damage caused by floods was huge. In the immediate future, it is necessary to focus on overcoming the consequences to stabilize the lives and production of people in flooded areas. In the long term, it is necessary to have the support of the community and investment resources in infrastructure, residential land, and production land for the people.
