Thousand-billion-dong expressways are about to be deployed in mountainous areas

Expressway projects with a total investment of thousands of billions of VND are expected to synchronize transport infrastructure, promote socio-economic development of mountainous provinces.

The Steering Committee for Key Traffic Works of Bac Kan province has just informed that preparations for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway Project have basically been completed. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place in the second week of March 2025.

The Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway project has a total investment of more than VND 5,750 billion, expected to be completed in 2026. The project is nearly 29km long, starting at the Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi BOT connecting point, ending at the Bac Kan - Cao Bang expressway.

The scale of the expressway is designed to be 80km/h, 4 lanes, the roadbed is 22m wide.

Up to now, the site clearance work in Bac Kan city has completed the counting of 342/345 affected households, some households have received compensation.

The People's Committee of Bac Kan province requested relevant units to urgently remove obstacles, speed up compensation progress, and complete the resettlement area. The Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway Project is of great significance, helping to improve transport infrastructure and create momentum for socio-economic development.

In Thai Nguyen and Lang Son, the Departments of Transport of these two provinces have just worked and agreed on contents related to advising on the implementation of the connecting road project, replacing the old National Highway 1B.

Accordingly, it is proposed to invest in the new Lang Son - Thai Nguyen road, about 70km long, according to the scale of a 4-lane highway. The minimum speed of the route is designed to be 80 km/h.

The expressway is expected to have a starting point in Lang Son and an ending point in Thai Nguyen. The project connection location between the two provinces is within the administrative boundaries of Tan Thanh commune (Bac Son district) and Phuong Giao commune ( Vo Nhai district).

The investment project aims to create momentum to promote economic and social development of the two localities. Contributing to strengthening regional linkages, forming the main traffic axis connecting the Northwest and Northeast regions.

In Ha Giang, the People's Committee of this province has just sent a document to the Prime Minister proposing to invest in the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway project (phase 2), from Tan Quang commune (Bac Quang district) to Thanh Thuy international border gate. The total investment of the project is 14,852 billion VND from public investment capital.

Ha Giang proposed to include the project in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030.

According to the proposal, the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway (phase 2) has a total length of about 58.5km. The starting point is at Km27+480, Tan Quang commune, Bac Quang district, continuing with the end point of Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway (phase 1). The end point is at Thanh Thuy international border gate, at Km307+500 QL2.

The route is designed with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The project scale includes 4 lanes, with a 25.25 m wide roadbed.

Ha Giang People's Committee plans to clear the land and prepare for investment from 2025 to 2026. The project started in 2026, completed and put into operation in 2028.

The expressway will create an economic development corridor, helping Ha Giang connect with the Red River Delta, Hanoi capital and northern seaports. At the same time, promote the import and export of goods through Thanh Thuy international border gate.
