The North-South expressway expansion project in the East, Cao Bo - Mai Son section, has a total length of 15.245km, starting point connecting to Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway (in the area of Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province) and ending point connecting to the North-South expressway in the East, Mai Son - National Highway 45 section (in the area of Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province).
The investment scale is expanded from 4 lanes as at present to 6 complete lanes, roadbed width is 32.5m; road surface is 22.5m wide; construction of additional bridge units on the left side of the route at 4 locations (Cao Bo bridge, Cam bridge, National Highway 10 overpass and Quan Vinh bridge); intelligent traffic system (ITS); vehicle load control system; toll station is built synchronously according to the standards of the expressway.
The project is invested by the Department of Transport of Ninh Binh province (now the Department of Construction) with a total investment of VND 1,875.616 billion from the central budget. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Chu Duc Long - Director of the Department of Construction of Ninh Binh province said that the North - South expressway expansion project in the East, Cao Bo - Mai Son section, is one of 5 projects assigned by the Prime Minister to supplement the medium-term public investment capital plan of the central budget for 2021 - 2025.
Immediately after the investment project was approved, under the strong direction of the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) and Ninh Binh province, along with the close coordination of central agencies, especially the specialized agencies of the Ministry of Construction, the Department of Construction of Ninh Binh province focused on directing relevant departments, specialized offices, and units with a spirit of urgency and seriousness, complying with legal regulations in all work.
"With a huge workload, thanks to the efforts and determination of the investor, the effective close coordination of participating units and relevant agencies, after more than 9 months since the project was approved, the project has now qualified to start construction" - Mr. Long said.
According to Mr. Long, after completion, the project will improve exploitation capacity, meet increasingly high transportation needs, reduce traffic accidents, and support the socio-economic development of Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces. At the same time, gradually complete the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Contributing to the implementation of the goals of Resolution No. 30-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Red River Delta.
It is known that the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway section (under the North - South expressway project in the East phase 2017 - 2020) is currently under operation with a total length of 15.245km. The scale includes 4 lanes, 17m wide roadbed, 16m road surface width, 80km/h speed and no continuous emergency lanes.
