Nghe An - Nguyen Gia Thieu Street, which was once seriously degraded, is being focused on renovation, striving to be completed before August 30, 2026.

On the morning of July 20, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters were present at the scene to record that on Nguyen Gia Thieu street, Truong Vinh ward, Nghe An province, machinery, vehicles and workers are urgently constructing.

Workers' groups simultaneously deploy many items such as excavating the foundation, installing drainage systems, compacting the roadbed and preparing to construct the next parts.

Representatives of the construction unit said that manpower and equipment are being focused on taking advantage of favorable weather to speed up the project progress.

For people living along the route, the project's implementation not only helps improve traffic infrastructure but also gradually solves a long-standing urban bottleneck.

A local resident said that in the past, traveling on Nguyen Gia Thieu street was very difficult. In the sunny season, dust covered houses; in the rainy season, water flooded potholes, posing a risk of accidents.

People have been waiting for this project for a long time. Now seeing machinery and workers continuously constructing, we are very excited and hope the project will be completed on schedule soon" - this person said.

Nguyen Gia Thieu Street, formerly located in Hung Dung ward, former Vinh City, was once considered one of the most seriously degraded roads in the inner city area.

Although only over 900m long, the road surface is densely covered with potholes and craters. Many sections have completely peeled off the asphalt concrete layer, revealing the rocky foundation, causing unsafety for people and vehicles.

This is a road with high traffic density, connecting many residential areas, schools, health stations, and also located near Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Nghe An Oncology Hospital and many business establishments.

The prolonged degradation situation makes it difficult for people in the area to travel, transport goods and operate.

Faced with the above situation, the old Vinh City People's Committee has approved the project to renovate and upgrade Nguyen Gia Thieu street.

According to the initial plan, the road is about 900m long, planned to be 24m wide, of which the road surface is 12m wide, and the sidewalks on each side are 6m wide. The total investment of the project is more than 256 billion VND.

However, the implementation process encountered many difficulties, especially in site clearance, forcing the project to adjust to reduce the investment scale.

On May 13, the People's Committee of Nghe An province held a meeting to give opinions on investment, repair, and upgrade plans for many key roads in Truong Vinh, Thanh Vinh, Vinh Phu and Vinh Loc wards.

Regarding the project to renovate and upgrade Nguyen Gia Thieu street, the section from Vo Nguyen Hien street to Ton That Tung street, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai agreed to adjust to reduce the investment scale.

Accordingly, instead of expanding to 24m as initially planned, the road is renovated according to the current status with a road surface width of 9m; sidewalks on both sides are arranged appropriately, with sections about 1m wide, in order to minimize site clearance work but still ensure long-term exploitation requirements.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phong - Vice Chairman of Truong Vinh Ward People's Committee - said that immediately after completing the procedures for adjusting the investment scale, contractors have mobilized maximum manpower and equipment to accelerate progress, striving to complete the project before August 30, 2026.
