Tight control
On December 23, present at Cau Treo International Border Gate, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper recorded a large number of people and vehicles passing through here, many trucks and container trucks lined up waiting to complete customs clearance procedures.
Before carrying out customs clearance procedures, the customs force carefully inspected vehicles and goods to detect smuggled and prohibited goods.
Many people entering Vietnam from Laos have to put their luggage on a conveyor belt for careful screening and inspection.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (from Nghe An province) from Laos entering the country through Cau Treo border gate shared: "We see that careful inspection at the border gate is necessary to detect smuggled and prohibited goods. For each citizen who does not violate, there is nothing to fear from inspection".
Major Le Thanh Dai - Deputy Head of the Cau Treo International Border Control Station - said that it is expected that from now until the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo, the number of people, vehicles and goods passing through the border gate will increase, posing a potential complication.
Therefore, the unit coordinated with the authorities at Cau Treo Border Gate to carry out a peak period of strengthening crime prevention before, during and after Tet to promptly detect, prevent and handle effectively.
"We strictly implement inspection and control processes and regulations to promptly detect violations at the entry and exit routes, while increasing patrols and controlling openings to prevent illegal entry and entry," Major Le Thanh Dai shared.
Determined to prevent smuggled and banned goods
Mr. Pham Van Tai - Captain of Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Team - said that in the face of the situation of goods passing through Cau Treo Border Gate increasing near Tet, the unit has closely followed the instructions of superiors, used equipped vehicles, coordinated with forces at the border gate to strengthen control to promptly detect and prevent smuggled and prohibited goods from entering the country.
At the same time, strengthen propaganda for people and businesses when entering and exiting the country through border gates to strictly comply with regulations.
According to Mr. Tai, the unit has increased control but has not recently discovered smuggled or banned goods. However, we should not be subjective in inspection and control, especially near Tet.
According to data from the Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Team, from January 1, 2025 to December 21, 2025, the unit will open 13,020 customs declarations, an increase of 36.74% over the same period in 2024. The number of vehicles entering and exiting the country is 194,895, an increase of more than 37% compared to 2024. Budget revenue reached VND 201.739 billion, reaching 67.7% of the assigned target, an increase of 2.71% compared to 2024.
Mr. Dao Nghia Dong - Deputy Captain of the Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Team - shared that although the number of vehicles entering and exiting the country has increased compared to 2024. However, in general, operations at Cau Treo International Border Gate still face many difficulties.
One of the reasons is that the parking lot at the border gate is small and narrow. In addition, the route from Laos to Cau Treo International Border Gate was previously designated by Laos as a National Highway, but has recently deteriorated, so it has been designated as a provincial road.
Since the regulation is a provincial road, means of transport must reduce their load. Therefore, many businesses have shifted to Cha Lo Border Gate (Quang Tri province), so they have reduced goods to Cau Treo International Border Gate.
