On July 7, functional agencies took DNA samples for Mr. Huynh Van Nho (59 years old) and Mr. Huynh Van Muoi (resident of Tay Ninh province) - two people claiming to be the younger brother of martyr Huynh Van Quen. The two men and local authorities went to Hoa Khanh Commune People's Committee (Tay Ninh province) to carry out this procedure.
The sampling is to serve medical comparison work, accurately identifying the set of martyr remains just collected at Le Thi Rieng Park (HCMC).
Previously, during the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains in the Le Thi Rieng Park area, functional forces exhumed a number of sets of remains and many artifacts. Notably, among the artifacts, there was a piece of paper still containing information named "Huynh Van Quen", along with lines related to the South Vietnam Liberation Army and the Battalion Command. This became the first important clue to help reveal the identity of the martyr.

Through deciphering unit codes and comparing archival records, functional agencies initially identified martyr Huynh Van Quen as a Liberation Army soldier, holding the position of Deputy Squad Leader, belonging to a unit of Long An, who participated in the fierce battle in the Chu Y bridge area during the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring Mau Than 1968. Immediately after this information was announced, Mr. Huynh Van Nho's family immediately contacted the authorities because they realized that there were many details that matched his eldest brother who had been missing since 1968.
In order to urgently clarify the matter, on the afternoon of July 6, Major General Nguyen Thanh Trung - Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh City Command, Standing Deputy Head of Steering Committee 515 of Ho Chi Minh City, directly led the working delegation to the family in Tay Ninh to visit, encourage and verify the dossier.
The comparison process showed that there were some disagreements between the family documents being kept. Specifically, the death certificate stated the martyr's name as Huynh Van Quyen, while the Certificate of Merit to the Fatherland stated the name Huynh Van Quyen. In this situation, DNA testing is considered a key scientific basis, decisive to affirm blood relations and identify martyrs.
After having DNA matching results, relevant units will urgently complete the dossier according to regulations to officially notify the family, thereby deploying the next steps in the work of repatriation and gratitude to martyrs.
