On November 11, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen signed and issued a plan to implement the digitalization of district-level archival documents to preserve historical values, improve management efficiency and promote digital transformation after merging the old Soc Trang, Hau Giang provinces and Can Tho City.
According to the plan, the total volume of archival documents that need to be digitized is 5,596.08 meters, equivalent to 27,980,400 pages of A4 documents, including documents with a long history of permanent storage and high exploitation frequency of district-level administrative agencies that have ended operations. After digitization, the data will be integrated into the digital document management software and the document exploitation website of the Can Tho City Historical archives Center.
The implementation plan is from 2025 - 2030, divided into stages: In the fourth quarter of 2025, 6,630,400 pages of A4 documents of districts and towns in the old Can Tho City will be digitized. In 2026 - 2030, the digitization of unedited documents of districts, towns, and cities in the old Soc Trang province and the old Can Tho city will be implemented, with a total of 3.7 - 5.25 million pages of documents per year.
The total estimated implementation cost is more than 142.6 billion VND, from the central and local budgets.

According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, digitalization not only helps reduce the cost of preserving physical documents, optimize budget sources but also creates conditions for quick and accurate information lookup and exploitation, serving historical research, community education and supporting administrative management.
The goal of the plan is to shift from traditional archiving to electronic archiving, ensuring the quality of digital documents, having backup, supporting administrative reform and developing digital transformation platforms, contributing to improving the efficiency of management and transparency of information in the locality.
