On April 14, Can Tho City People's Committee held a meeting of press and radio agencies for the first quarter of 2026. Here, Mr. Tran Phu Loc Thanh - Deputy Director of Can Tho City Department of Agriculture and Environment said that currently, in the process of collecting and transporting garbage, there are still some shortcomings related to infrastructure, transfer points and garbage collection points according to development planning. The reason is that they were not fully and methodically planned before and had not invested in time with the emissions.

Regarding this issue, Can Tho City People's Committee has directed, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with the Department of Finance to include it in the medium-term public investment plan. In the immediate future, include in the city's planning updated in Decision 3639 of the city the transfer points and garbage collection points of the whole city.
In addition to existing waste treatment plants, the city is continuing to invite investment in 2 other waste treatment plants.
According to Mr. Tran Phu Loc Thanh, this year, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned by the City People's Committee to prepare to invest in a modern garbage transfer point, ensuring the environment in the central location to solve the problem of garbage collection for the entire central area of 3 old districts including: Ninh Kieu, Cai Rang and Binh Thuy.

In the first quarter of 2026, the Department of Agriculture issued 2 documents in February and March, requesting communes and wards that are units under decentralization in waste transportation and collection to focus on handling existing problems in collection, in order to solve people's grievances.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City informed that, according to statistics, the total volume of solid domestic waste collected and treated in the city is on average about 1,712.95 tons/day.
Currently, there are about 19 units collecting and transporting domestic solid waste and 5 plants/recycling areas for domestic solid waste in the city.
Solid waste treatment plants/areas, solid waste landfills in the city include: burning for electricity generation; burning without energy recovery; composting.
The landfill/open landfill area currently has 30 operating landfills, with an area of 1-2 hectares, a total collection volume of about 157 tons/day, and a total amount of accumulated waste of about 100,000 tons. Can Tho City currently has 17 old solid domestic waste landfills that have stopped operating but still have accumulated waste with appendices.
Regarding garbage transfer, the city currently has 2 transfer stations and waiting points, domestic solid waste collection points arranged and arranged by localities themselves.
