In the period of 2025 - 2030, the city has 4 thermal power projects (total capacity of 4,010 MW), 2 coal-fired thermal power projects (2,400 MW) and 1 Lot B - O Mon gas pipeline project.
Notably, O Mon I Thermal Power Plant (660 MW) project converts fuel for O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant using Lot B gas, the project is expected to be completed in 2027. O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant (10,050MW) started construction in August 2025 and is expected to be commercially operational in 2028.
The Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant project has reached 80% of the construction progress. In 2025, the project investor held a launching ceremony to speed up the project implementation progress to continue construction, striving to complete commercial operation according to the approved schedule in the Adjusted Power Plan VIII, 2026.
Regarding renewable energy, Can Tho currently has 7 wind power projects in commercial operation with a total capacity of 340 MW; 2 projects are completing procedures to put into operation in 2025. In total, there are 30 wind power projects (2,752 MW) in the area, of which 11 new projects with 1,407 MW of capacity are added in the adjusted Power Plan VIII.
For solar power, the city has 5 connected projects with a total capacity of 210 MW, and is in the process of submitting to the City People's Council for approval of the investor selection list. In addition, there are 3 thermal power projects (168 MW) and 2 waste-to-energy projects (31 MW) being implemented, of which Hau Giang Waste-to-power Plant has put into operation the No. 1 complex with a capacity of 6 MW in 2025.
The city always focuses on investing in renovating, upgrading the power grid and expanding power supply to rural and island areas. In the 2020 - 2025 period, the electricity industry has put into operation 3 220 kV transformer stations with a total capacity of 1,150 MVA, built and increased the capacity of 9 110 kV transformer stations (increased by 433 MVA), along with more than 145 km of 110 kV power line.
Currently, Can Tho has 552 km of 110 kV power lines, more than 7,200 km of medium-voltage lines, 13,600 km of low-voltage lines, 27 110/22 kV stations and nearly 11,000 distribution stations serving production and daily life of people and businesses.
Can Tho City identifies developing power supply infrastructure as a key task to ensure energy security and serve economic and social development. The city prioritizes calling for investment in oil and gas product distribution systems, crude oil warehouses, and petrochemical projects, while coordinating with ministries and branches to accelerate the construction of LNG pipelines, ensuring stable supply for production, especially electricity production.
Can Tho also encourages the development of wind power, solar power, thermal power and waste-to-energy, aiming to gradually replace fossil energy and develop a circular economy associated with environmental protection.
In addition, the National Program on energy-saving and efficient use for the period 2020 - 2030 is being implemented, encouraging businesses and households to switch to using clean energy, towards building a modern, sustainable and green energy infrastructure.
