The leaders of the People's Committee of Can Tho City have just directed departments, branches and localities to continue to effectively implement Directive 10/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on ensuring traffic order and safety in the new situation.
Accordingly, units need to mobilize resources, complete urban planning associated with transportation, and reserve commercial land to create capital for infrastructure development, especially regional transportation. Focus on implementing public transport projects by bus. Speed up the progress of the Can Tho - Ca Mau, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway projects and the high-speed railway line connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region.
The city also requires strengthening investment management in road traffic construction to synchronously connect provincial and national highways, creating a synchronous and smooth traffic network.
Increase investment resources for ensuring traffic order and safety, especially investment in building Data Centers, managing, supervising, handling violations and operating traffic.
Strictly implement urban planning and traffic planning; research on relocating administrative agencies, hospitals, schools, industrial production areas... out of the center; study and propose solutions for competent authorities to consider adjusting working hours, studying, and business to ensure scientific limitation of vehicle traffic during rush hour, contributing to reducing traffic congestion.
According to the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, after the city's merger, there are currently 9 key national highways nearly 600km long, along with more than 59 provincial, inter-provincial, urban, district and rural routes. Traffic volume has increased sharply, especially on routes connecting the city center via National Highway 1, National Highway 61B, National Highway 91B and urban main roads, causing frequent traffic jams at gateways.
Traffic congestion has become common in recent years, especially in central wards such as Ninh Kieu, Tan An, Hung Phu, Cai Rang during rush hour. The development of urban areas according to the traditional model, focusing hospitals, schools, and agencies on the center, combined with difficulties in site clearance, makes it even more difficult to completely resolve congestion.
