On the morning of August 26, Steering Committee 515 of Can Tho City solemnly organized a memorial service and burial ceremony for 38 sets of remains of martyrs who were repatriated by the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains (temporary) of the City Military Command and Team K90 of the Political Department of Military Region 9 in communes: Truong Long Tay, Phong Dien, Truong Thanh, Thoi Lai, Vinh Vien and Xa Phien. Among the 38 sets of remains of martyrs above, one set of remains of martyr known as martyr Nguyen Thi Ut, a guerrilla in Tan Hoa commune, who died in 1969.
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, Head of Steering Committee 515 - said that the Party, State, Army, Party committees, local authorities and people always cherish, remember the merits and honor the heroic martyrs, generations of revolutionary cadres and soldiers who bravely sacrificed themselves to win and protect the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the peaceful and happy life of the people.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, implementing the 500 Days and Nights Campaign, the City Steering Committee 515 has strengthened leadership, direction, and promoted survey and propaganda work. The Standing Agency of the City Steering Committee 515 coordinated with Team K90, Political Department of Military Region 9, with the active support of Party committees, authorities and local people, to organize the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains.
Through this, the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains (temporary) under the City Military Command and Team K90 searched and repatriated 38 martyrs' remains; at the same time, 37 biological samples were taken to serve DNA testing, contributing to identifying the identities of the martyrs.
In the coming time, the Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee emphasized that he will continue to review, survey, and search for all temporary cemeteries during the war in localities, organize searches until there are no more martyrs' remains in the area, to bring the martyrs back to rest with comrades and teammates.
At the same time, continue to review and verify units, identities, relatives and take biological samples of martyrs' remains to serve DNA testing to identify martyrs' remains.
