On the morning of July 22, the Military Command of Can Tho City coordinated with Team K90 (Military Region 9) to conduct the exhumation and repatriation of the remains of Martyr Nguyen Thi Ut in Truong Tho hamlet, Truong Long Tay commune, after many days of organizing surveys and excavations.
According to records, from early morning, at the resting place of Martyr Nguyen Thi Ut, officers and soldiers urgently deployed preparations in a solemn atmosphere. All plans for forces, vehicles and logistics were meticulously completed, ensuring that the exhumation ceremony took place on schedule and strictly followed.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Van Quan (born in 1950, Tan Hoa commune, Can Tho city) said that in 1969, he was Deputy Head of the Tan Hoa Commune Guerrilla Team (including 8 females and 1 male), directly participating in activities in the area during the war, and is currently a wounded soldier.
According to Mr. Quan, at about 8 am on a day in August 1969 (date not remembered), enemy aircraft sent troops to raid at Chet Tho hamlet, Truong Long Tay commune. About 5 aircraft circled and shot at huts in the field area.
At that time, there were 3 people in a hut. The enemy's raid killed 1 person, Nguyen Thi Ut.
According to witnesses, soldier Nguyen Thi Ut is a guerrilla in Tan Hoa commune, commonly known as Ut Mom, operating in Truong Long Tay commune.
Captain Nguyen Huu Loc - Deputy Head of the Temporary Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains, Can Tho City Military Command said that for Ms. Ut's grave, the team received a lot of information. In which, no information is missed but must be verified and verified gradually.
“The land area is more than 20m2, the brothers tried and searched for nearly 3 days. Initially, when they found signs, the brothers were also worried because they did not know if it was the right grave. But after determining that it was indeed the remains of Martyr Nguyen Thi Ut, the brothers were very happy because the efforts of the past few days had results,” Captain Nguyen Huu Loc shared.
According to Captain Loc, the delta land is clearly stratified, muddy soil, clay soil, hard soil... Depending on weather conditions, the brothers try their best. The amount of soil brought up is very large, the team has searched for each location, just dig up and then fill it down. The last location is exactly the martyr's remains.
“We also encourage our brothers, Martyr Ut is someone who participated in the resistance war, sacrificed himself for peace and independence. We ourselves are soldiers, we must have gratitude, try to search,” Captain Nguyen Huu Loc said emotionally.
Captain Nguyen Huu Loc added that the search process requires absolute caution. When the leng head touched an object and the first layer of nylon appeared, the commander immediately requested the force to slow down and meticulously expand the scene. The larger the pit, the clearer the signs became with the wartime nylon sheet, wrapped inside with a layer of fabric protecting the martyrs' remains.
