Due to the impact of storm No. 3 (Yagi), heavy rains occurred over a wide area in Cao Bang province from September 7 to 10, causing major floods on rivers and streams, inundating riverside areas and low-lying areas; accompanied by heavy rains and serious landslides in some communes and districts, with estimated damage of more than VND 880 billion.
According to the latest statistics of the functional sector of Cao Bang province, the floods have caused 55 deaths, 19 injuries, 2 missing; 2,239 houses damaged; over 2,076 hectares of rice and crops flooded; 28.95 hectares of perennial crops (cinnamon, anise, acacia, bamboo...) broken; 18.37 hectares of fish farming area; 1.75 hectares of rice field fish farming area; 23 cages and rafts for raising various types of fish washed away or damaged; thousands of livestock and poultry died or were swept away.
Many residential areas are still divided and isolated; many key traffic routes, schools, medical stations, irrigation works, electricity and water systems, communications... are severely damaged.
The whole province has 38 schools damaged by landslides, flooding, and roofs blown off; 45 irrigation works damaged, buried, or collapsed; 23 bridges, 5 medical stations, 7 cultural houses, and 24 other works were damaged by landslides and floods.
During the disaster recovery process, Cao Bang province mobilized over 7,630 people. Support and relief work to ensure stable living conditions for people in disaster- and landslide-affected areas was actively carried out by all levels, sectors, units, and localities in many forms.
Localities arranged tents for households in the evacuation area, ensuring stable living conditions; conducted surveys, found locations and started construction of new houses for households damaged by landslides and burials at 2 landslide points in residential areas of Nguyen Binh district.
To overcome the consequences of natural disasters, Cao Bang province proposed that the Government and relevant ministries and branches consider and support the province to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3; requested the Ministry of Transport to direct the Vietnam Road Administration and road management and maintenance units to promptly deploy plans to ensure traffic safety and overcome the consequences caused by rain and floods on national highways in the province; support emergency handling and prevention of riverbank landslides, including 2 projects with a total cost of 400 billion VND.
