The 374 billion VND bridge in Ho Chi Minh City is still sluggish after 6 years of construction

HCMC - The Ba Hom Bridge project (Binh Tan District, HCMC) is expected to open to traffic at the end of November 2024, but so far there are no signs of it reaching the finish line.

The Ba Hom Bridge construction project (Tan Tao Ward, Binh Tan District) across Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len Canal was started in 2018 with a total investment of about 374 billion VND. This is a bridge that helps connect traffic between the Western provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.

However, due to problems with compensation and site clearance, the project was later suspended. By the end of October 2023, Binh Tan District handed over the entire site to the investor and the Ba Hom Bridge project officially resumed construction.

According to the plan, this project will be officially completed and opened to traffic at the end of November 2024. However, according to Lao Dong reporters on October 23, at the current construction site, the project is still in disarray, with no signs of reaching the finish line on time. The first two parts of the bridge have not been closed, and there are no workers at the construction site.

The project is located on Provincial Road 10, one of the gateways from the Western provinces to Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, the bridge is located near Tan Tao Industrial Park, so it always welcomes a large number of vehicles every day.

While waiting for the Ba Hom Bridge to be completed, residents in the area have to travel across two temporary iron bridges. However, with the large number of vehicles traveling every day, many residents are concerned about the safety of the temporary bridge each time they cross it.

Mr. N.P.T. (living in Binh Tan district) said that not only motorbikes but also many trucks travel across this bridge. "Now we don't know when the bridge will be completed, we have been waiting for this bridge for many years," said Mr. T.

On Provincial Road 10 (Binh Tan District) towards Ba Hom Bridge, many electric poles are still hanging in the middle of the road, with tangled wires, causing loss of urban beauty and potential safety risks.

According to the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), the Ba Hom Bridge construction project has reached 70% of the workload. Currently, the contractor is constructing the upper structure of the main bridge and completing the widened road surface as well as the sidewalk. However, the project is stuck with the recovery of electric poles.

The Ho Chi Minh City Power Distribution Project Management Board has committed to reclaiming the site to return it to the Traffic Department. Once the site is cleared, the unit will request to speed up the progress and complete the Ba Hom Bridge as planned.

The area around the project is used by people for street vending. In particular, inside the construction site, many small traders use this area as a place to slaughter poultry.

Electric poles in the middle of the road make it difficult for people to move around.

When completed, Ba Hom Bridge will not only help connect traffic to neighboring provinces, but also reduce traffic jams on Provincial Road 10, especially during rush hour...
