Tu My Bridge across the Bua River is located at km26+500 of National Highway 32C connecting Lam Son Commune, Tam Nong District and Dong Luong Commune, Cam Khe District (Phu Tho Province). After nearly 3 decades of serving the people (since 1996), this bridge has seriously degraded.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at the end of October 2024, Tu My Bridge is being repaired by the Department of Transport. At the construction site, there are many vehicles and materials gathered; many items are under construction.
It can be seen that the two abutments around the bridge have been demolished, a temporary steel bridge section has been placed on top so that rudimentary vehicles can pass through; the bridge piers are being expanded and reinforced to withstand the force; the two river banks are also being renovated to be more solid...
According to the investigation of reporters at the National Bidding Network System, the above project belongs to the project of Overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, repairing and ensuring traffic safety step 2 of Tu My bridge at Km26+500 National Highway 32C.
This project has a total investment of 27 billion VND, the Department of Transport of Phu Tho province is the investor, Toan Thinh Joint Stock Company is the winning unit for the construction contract of the project from the end of April 2024 with a value of more than 22.7 billion VND.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Nguyen - Director of the Project Management Board for Construction and Maintenance of Traffic Works (under the Department of Transport) - the project management unit - said that it is expected that by the end of 2024, the above project will be completed and put into use.
According to the reporter's investigation, over the past 3 years, Tu My bridge has restricted traffic 3 times due to repairs.
Previously, from May 21, 2021, the Department of Transport of Phu Tho province announced that all vehicles with a total load of over 13 tons could not pass through the bridge because the bridge needed to be repaired.
More than 3 months later, on August 31, the traffic diversion was announced to be extended until 5:00 p.m. on September 20, 2021.
Nearly a year later, on September 10, 2022, Tu My Bridge continued to be announced to prohibit vehicles with a total load of 13 tons or more from circulating, serving repair work due to the previous landslide situation at the four cones, the breast wall and both sides of the four cones of the M0 abutment.
By October 28, 2022, the Department of Transport will allow traffic to be restored through Tu My Bridge.
After the collapse of Phong Chau bridge on September 9, the Department of Transport issued a document restricting vehicles from crossing Tu My bridge and Trung Ha bridge (on National Highway 32, across the Da River connecting Tam Nong district and Ba Vi district, Hanoi), the reason for continuing to be because they are under repair.
As for Trung Ha Bridge, as of October 20, the vehicle restriction has been relaxed, allowing vehicles with less than 3 axles and less than 29 seats to travel. As for Tu My Bridge, although it has been continuously repaired over the years, with the current status and expected completion time as stated above, the vehicle restriction will continue.
